If reports are true, Liverpool could be about to take a huge risk in push for £70m midfielder – TBR View

Liverpool are among the clubs being linked with a move for West Ham midfielder, Declan Rice, who is set to be in demand next summer.

Rice has long been courted by a number of Premier League clubs. His form for the Hammers has been nothing short of superb. Chelsea, as we all know, have long been linked with Rice, while reports recently have suggested

Further to those reports, has also suggested that if they did move for Rice.

However, if the Reds are to sacrifice the Brazilian midfielder to make room for Rice, then it comes with an element of risk.

Fabinho for Rice is risky business for Liverpool

There is no doubting the talent of Declan Rice and how good he can be for anyone. He’d make Liverpool a better team and if they did sign him, Reds fans would be delighted.

However, if the notion of losing Fabinho to make room for Rice is being considered, then Liverpool need to be careful.

Fabinho has been an integral player for Liverpool over the years. Few have mastered that defensive midfield position quite like he has and if he did move on, he’d be a big miss.

Of course, the challenge would then be for Rice to show Liverpool they won’t miss Fabinho. But that comes with added pressure for Rice as well, and could hinder his own progress.

The England man is good enough to take over from Fabinho. On paper, he is the natural successor and given how he drives forward at times, some might consider him an upgrade.

But in football, sometimes you have to be careful about what you wish for. There have been murmurs among some Liverpool fans that Fabinho needs to move on. And while Rice is a fine signing, Fabinho would leave big shoes to fill.
