Liverpool linked with ‘phenomenal’ £43m-rated star, fans should be buzzing – TBR View
Liverpool could be in the market for one or two more players before Tuesday’s deadline, with Mikkel Damsgaard on the radar. The Euro 2020 star could leave Sampdoria and has a host of admirers, including Jurgen Klopp.
, Liverpool are seriously weighing up a move for Damsgaard. Sampdoria will hope to make a significant profit on the £6 million they paid for him last September.
In his one season with the Serie A outfit, he scored twice and claimed four assists. He largely operated on the left-hand side of a flat-four midfield. The Dane can, however, play in a number of different positions.
Damsgaard shone at the European Championships. He scored twice and registered one assist. He did his very best to knock England out at the semi-final stage, scoring a scrumptious free-kick.
Where would Damsgaard fit in at Anfield?
With Xherdan Shaqiri now at Lyon, Liverpool would welcome some more quality into their attacking ranks. At 21, Damsgaard might not immediately become the first choice, but he’d provide an upgrade in competition.

Sadio Mane is unlikely to be vacating the spot on the left-hand side just yet, whilst Diogo Jota is also at the club. Damsgaard would allow Liverpool to mix it up, however.
He spent a fair amount of time playing as a No.10 last season. Should Klopp decide to go 4-2-3-1 at any point this season, Damsgaard could prove ideal behind the striker.
Gini Wijnaldum left for PSG in the summer. Damsgaard can play in central midfield, although that option is far less familiar to the international performer.
Should Liverpool fans be excited?
Absolutely they should. Damsgaard is a fantastic footballer and given his age, he has bags of unearthed potential. If Liverpool can land him this summer, they’d be making a sound investment for the future.
Sampdoria’s president has previously claimed that it could take up to to sign the performer. At this stage, it’s unclear whether or not Liverpool would be willing to pay that.

Leicester goalkeeper and international teammate Kasper Schmeichel is a huge admirer. He previously called him ‘ and clearly, he thinks his compatriot would thrive in the Premier League.
It’s an exciting link though and fans should be buzzing at the prospect of Damsgaard strutting his stuff at Anfield.
