Liverpool-linked Timo Werner reaches 12 Bundesliga goals but reported 2018 target Wout Weghorst matches that tally

Over the past few weeks, Liverpool have been strongly linked with Red Bull Leipzig striker Timo Werner. Many media outlets, , have reported Liverpool’s interest in Werner and a summer move could be a possibility.

Liverpool scouts might have been impressed with Werner if they had watched him in action this weekend as he chalked up his 12th goal of the campaign.

The Germany international netted the only goal as RB Leipzig downed Schalke away from home to take his tally to 12 in 23 league matches.

Liverpool might see the 23-year-old as the striker to take them forward in the long-term future but there is another possibility for the Reds.

Last summer, Liverpool were linked with Wout Weghorst, who admitted it was his dream to move to Anfield ().

And the 26-year-old has been in fine form for Wolfsburg this season, matching Werner’s tally of 12 league goals with a hat-trick at the weekend.

Weghorst has played a few more matches but with five assists, he has contributed to more goals than Werner, who has two assists to his name.

The Dutch striker is not a big name striker like Werner and is three years older, making him the less desirable of the two.

But Weghorst wants to fulfil his Liverpool dream and he is showing the goal scoring prowess to put himself into contention.
