Liverpool legend says reported Arsenal target ‘can’t defend’
Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol has given his take on the Alberto Moreno to Arsenal links.
The Spaniard is leaving Anfield having failed to agree a contract extension, meaning he’ll be a free transfer for his next club.
One such club who have been linked with a move for the left-back is Arsenal ().

Unai Emery doesn’t have much money to spend this summer and must be shrewd in the market.
They have need for reinforcements on the left side of their defence, with Nacho Monreal coming to the end of his time at the Emirates, and Sead Kolasinac yet to fully convince.
In the eyes of ex-Reds defender Nicol though, Moreno is someone to avoid even with his lack of a transfer fee.

: “As a Liverpool fan I hope so. But quite honestly, no [it won’t happen]. Moreno can’t defend.
“The reason Liverpool brought in Robertson was because they needed somebody who could actually defend in the Premier League particularly.
“So why would Moreno go to Arsenal in the Premier League? Is he any better defensively than Monreal? No he’s not.”
TBR’s view
Nicol is arguably right in his view that Moreno is weak defensively, but Arsenal may not have too many other options this summer.

Fans don’t want to see it, but Monreal is ageing and Moreno could potentially work better in a back five as an attacking wing-back.
It would be an extremely bold move by Emery, but his Premier League experience and lack of a transfer fee mean a move cannot be totally ruled out.
