Liverpool: Klopp discusses January window; Lucas could depart; left-back interest

Jurgen Klopp spoke to the media in his press conference to calm rumours of a busy transfer window ahead in January as he told the :

“If you don’t have the biggest injury issues in the world and you need players only for the line-up then you should only do things you would do in the summer too, because otherwise you solve a problem for half a year then have another one in the summer. We always have an eye on the market but that doesn’t mean we can do what we want always. If we have an eye on a player then he is a good player and probably plays in a good club and if this club doesn’t need money then we have no chance. We don’t want to convince players with money, we want to convince them with the way we go.”

With Sadio Mane off to the African Cup of Nations and Danny Ings out injured for the season, an addition could be made to the front line, whilst defensive additions are also rumoured.

However, they could be set to lose one man with the  reporting that Inter Milan are preparing a £4 million bid for Brazilian Lucas Leiva, who has now been at the club for nine years but has played a back up role this season with just three starts in the Premier League to date.

Lucas was linked with a move away in the summer but Klopp wanted to keep him as an option with it unclear if that situation has now changed with his contract set to expire in the summer.

The claim that a left-back could also be added to rival James Milner as they report on suggestions that Aston Villa full back Jordan Amavi could be a target. The 22-year-old has 17 appearances for the Villains under his belt in the Championship this campaign.

The Frenchman is highly rated but has failed to live up to expectations like many of his teammates over the past two seasons.
