Report: Liverpool showing interest in Real Betis star Junior Firpo

Liverpool are looking at Real Betis defender Junior Firpo as a potential summer signing,

The ex-Spain Under-21 international won’t come cheap with the report suggesting that he is valued at £45 million by the La Liga outfit.

Naturally a left-back, the 22-year-old played on the left-wing for Betis last season, scoring three goals and registering five assists.

Liverpool might not need too many additions to their squad this summer, but a left-back would be ideal.

Alberto Moreno has departed on a free transfer following the end of his contract, leaving Andy Robertson as the club’s only recognised left-back.

It would seem unlikely that Klopp would add Firpo to his squad as a winger. His versatility, however, would make for a pleasant headache for the Liverpool boss.

TBR Verdict

Firpo enjoyed a solid campaign at Betis last season helping them to a respectable 10th place finish.

Perhaps the best aspect of his arrival at Liverpool would be his versatility, although it seems likely he will act as an understudy to Andy Robertson.

The fact he is a similar sort of left-back to the Scottish performer is ideal.

Liverpool’s style of play is all about the full-backs pressing high up the pitch and Firpo would be more than comfortable with that strategy, should Robertson ever miss out.

Betis value the player at £45 million, although Liverpool will probably try and land him a little bit cheaper.

His age, energy and potential to improve would make him a decent acquisition for Klopp, even if it may take him some time to get up to scratch with the Premier League.
