Liverpool interested in ‘fantastic’ Mo Salah replacement who’d be cheaper than Federico Chiesa
Liverpool may soon have to contemplate life without Mohamed Salah.
Salah’s contract with Liverpool is up at the end of the season, and, as of right now, the Egyptian is set to leave the club next summer.
Of course, that could all change very quickly. Salah’s contract talks are said to be going well, and the winger is open to signing just a one-year extension.
However, Liverpool do need to prepare for the worst case scenario, and in order to do that, they need to have some replacements in mind.
Speaking on the FC Bayern Insider Podcast, Christian Falk has been discussing Liverpool’s situation, and he’s said that the Reds are indeed interested in Leroy Sane on a free transfer next year.

Liverpool want Leroy Sane
According to Falk, Liverpool’s links to Sane are true.
The journalist says that Livepool are very attracted to Sane due to his Premier League experience, and it’s fair to say he was brilliant the last time he was in England.

Games | 90 |
Goals | 25 |
Assists | 29 |
This would be a free transfer, which is another remarkable bit of business on the cheap after Liverpool signed Federico Chiesa last summer for a pittance at just £10m.
“That’s why he could possibly make the move. So is it true that Liverpool have him on their list as Salah’s successor?” Falk was asked.
“That’s true. Mohamed Salah, he really hasn’t missed a TV camera recently to complain that Liverpool haven’t offered him a new contract. Now Liverpool have responded via the press,” Falk said.
“I think that’s been leaked a bit. He was supposedly offered one year. Salah is said to have wanted three.
“Now the question is, can you agree on two or do you get someone else? And Leroy Sane has moved on to the list alongside Omar Marmoush, who they are also focusing on from the Bundesliga. With Leroy Sane, of course, they say he’s available on a free transfer.
“He has experience. He knows the Premier League. So that’s very attractive.
“And at Bayern, he’s a bit of a backwater at the moment. There have been no talks yet. There has been no offer.”
Liverpool’s best free transfers
Signing a player like Sane on a free would be a ridiculous piece of business, and it would be up there with Liverpool’s greatest ever free transfers.
Make no mistake about it, the Reds have done some brilliant business in recent years on the free agent market.

James Milner | Manchester City |
Joel Matip | Schalke |
Kolo Toure | Manchester City |
Craig Bellamy | Manchester City |
Maxi Rodriguez | Atletico Madrid |
Leroy Sane’s former Manchester City teammate, James Milner is perhaps Liverpool’s best-ever free agent signing.
However, Joel Matip was also a brilliant servant, as was Kolo Toure.
Maxi Rodriguez also had some memorable moments in a Liverpool shirt.
Sane would be on another level though.
The German is a ‘fantastic’ player according to Harry Kane, via , and he’s a proven commodity at Premier League level.
This could be an utterly brilliant signing if Liverpool manage to get this deal done.
