Liverpool in race for defender who may leave on free transfer – journalist

Journalist Ben Jacobs has told that Liverpool have been monitoring Evan Ndicka, with a mad chase for his signature about to start should he not sign a new contract at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Ndicka has been outstanding for the Europa League champions, making more than 160 appearances for the Bundesliga side since his arrival in 2018.

The 23-year-old is attracting serious attention due to the fact that he is currently set to be a free agent in the summer. Already this is plenty of speculation that he may be on the way to the Premier League.

Christian Falk has previously suggested that both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Ndicka’s agents about a potential switch to North London.

Jacobs has now provided an update on just how extensive the list of admirers actually is. And amongst the teams the journalist mentioned was Liverpool, with the Reds seemingly keeping track of the former France youth international.

“There’s a mad, mad chase on all across Europe for the 23-year-old,” . “Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea potentially, even with the arrival of Badiashile and of course Wesley Fofana, Liverpool have kept an eye on him, and then, a whole variety of others across Europe. Paris Saint-Germain is another option.”

Reds must continue squad overhaul this summer

It is going to be a hugely important summer for Liverpool. Unfortunately, they have really struggled for any consistency in recent months. And it does appear that more of the squad which brought them so much success in the past needs an overhaul.

The midfield appears to be a real concern. But it is also probably fair to suggest that none of the centre-back options have stood out.

Virgil van Dijk was given a torrid time in his most recent appearance, the loss at Brentford. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate is still a work in progress given his potential.

Liverpool have not been afraid to push the boat out for their top targets. But they are also excellent at finding value in the market.

Ndicka – who is a ‘‘ talent – certainly represents that when you consider his contract situation. So it is not entirely surprising that the Reds have their eye on landing the defender.
