Liverpool: Hint at move for winger; battle for Bundesliga forward; Stoke win reaction
The claim that Georgino Wijnaldum commenting on Quincy Promes’ latest Instagram post could hint towards his international teammate making the move to Anfield after recent speculation. Promes, currently at Spartak Moscow, would fit the bill well given his ability to play in a front three, but may not come cheap.
This link in the Express seems a tentative one, but Jurgen Klopp is said to be in the market for another attacking player with Sadio Mane set to depart for the African Cup of Nations after the Sunderland game in the new year.
Another target is said to be Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt, with the citing the Daily Mail as linking the Reds with a move for the 20-year-old who has scored three and set up six goals in 22 games this season. However, they may face a battle with Everton, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham.
The youngster has impressed in recent weeks with his displays and may well be a candidate given that Jurgen Klopp most likely knows him well given his time in Germany as manager of Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp will have been pleased with the display of his side yesterday in a convincing comeback victory over Mark Hughes’ Stoke City, but many of the press were distracted by the presence of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola in the stands ahead of the top of the table clash on New Year’s Eve. Klopp :
“I don’t know. I respect them a lot, but I have not been to City’s stadium this season or last to watch games. Maybe they want to watch good football, maybe Pep saw nothing tonight? The game is on the 31st. So whatever I say tonight, we cannot win it tonight. But maybe I could say a few things that make it more difficult for us. It’s probably best I shut my mouth!”
The German will be hoping to have Philippe Coutinho back available to him for the fixture against the Citizens but was clearly not in the mood for mind games on Tuesday evening.
