Liverpool have two big reasons to entertain interest in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is being linked with an exit from Anfield.
that the English star is wanted by Wolverhampton Wanderers, although other reports have disputed the original claim.
Chamberlain arrived at Liverpool for a reported fee of £35 million () from Arsenal in the summer of 2017, in the hope of getting regular minutes in central midfield.
At one point he was doing just that, until a serious knee injury against AS Roma in the 2017/18 Champions League semi-final put him on the sidelines for a year.
Arguably, Chamberlain has been unable to reach the level he was at just before his injury, which is a massive shame for a talented player.
As things currently stand, Oxlade-Chamberlain is far off becoming a regular in central midfield again, and there are two big reasons why the Reds should perhaps be trying to sell him this window.
Naby Keita is starting to come good for Liverpool, and youngster Curtis Jones – equipped with his new number 17 – looks set for a more prominent role in 2020/21.
TBR’s View – A sacrificial lamb?
Liverpool are said to still need to fund the incomings of Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago and Diogo Jota, and selling Chamberlain would be a good way to help with this.
The Reds would be OK without him; Keita is far more settled now and is an excellent ball-carrier, and young Jones also operates in those attacking midfield positions and has looked fantastic most times he’s turned out for the first-team.
Liverpool have no interest in letting him go, but surely the club ought to give it some consideration, especially with him being on £120,000-a-week ().
