Liverpool have reportedly been keen on Alex McCarthy for a number of years
Liverpool have been admirers of Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy for a number of seasons,
They that the Reds are keen on the 29-year-old Englishman to replace Simon Mignolet at the second choice goalkeeper at Anfield.
But the interest goes back beyond this summer, even back to before 2016 when McCarthy made the switch from Crystal Palace to St Mary’s.
And the says that McCarthy is open to a move to the European champions, despite the fact he would likely be sitting on the bench behind Brazilian international Alisson for much of the season.

Liverpool’s transfer policy has smartened up considerably in recent seasons and it will likely encourage fans that they have had McCarthy on their radar for a number of seasons, and are not just turning to him because Mignolet has decided to leave.
The Englishman is a very good Premier League goalkeeper, with solid experience and would not let Liverpool down if called upon.
Clearly, he isn’t on Alisson’s level, but it is not so long ago that McCarthy may well have been considered suitable for the number one spot at Anfield – not least because of how many players have moved between the clubs in recent seasons.
