Liverpool have agreed deal to sell ‘incredible’ player in move which could raise £30m

Liverpool’s transfer window has shown some signs of bursting into life as we edge closer to deadline day.

Arne Slot is yet to sign a player this summer, but in terms of outgoings, the Reds have been quite active in recent weeks.

Fabio Carvalho joined Brentford for £27.5m earlier this month and Bobby Clark has agreed a deal to move to Austrian Bundesliga side RB Salzburg, where he will reunite with ex-Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders.

With just over a week to go for the transfer window to slam shut, it now appears as if Sepp van den Berg could be the next Liverpool player out of the door as he edges closer to a transfer.

According to , Brentford have agreed to pay £25m plus £5m in add-ons for the Dutchman, who is also attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen.

Xabi Alonso’s side are also willing to match the fee but need to sell one of their centre-backs first, throwing a spanner into the works of a possible transfer.

With two clubs willing to pay a sizable transfer fee that meets Liverpool’s demands, the ball is now on Van den Berg’s court as the 22-year-old prepares to decide his future imminently.

Van den Berg’s decision to leave Liverpool is the right one

The Dutchman has had loan spells at Preston North End, Schalke and Mainz since joining Liverpool in 2019 and has made just four competitive appearances for the club.

Van den Berg was hailed as an ‘incredible’ player by former Preston teammate Gregg Cunningham and has shown that he’s more than capable of holding his own in the top flight, having enjoyed a fantastic loan spell at Mainz last season.

With interested clubs willing to pay as much as £30m, Liverpool are set to make a sizable profit on a player they signed for £4.4m.

Moreover, at Brentford or Leverkusen, he would get regular game time under his belt unlike what would be the case at Liverpool, where he is essentially Slot’s fifth-choice central defensive option.

It remains to be seen where Van den Berg decides to go, but his transfer seems like a question of when rather than if.
