Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius discusses potentially imminent Anfield return
that he remains in contact with Jurgen Klopp and goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, but would not comment on his future – other than stating he is contracted to Liverpool.
A former Manchester City youth player, Liverpool signed Karius from German side Mainz in the summer of 2016 for £4.7million. Initially a back-up keeper, Karius broke into the starting eleven and played 49 times for the Reds.
From a distance, his stats are impressive. A huge 22 clean sheets and just 47 goals conceded would suggest Karius remains a crucial part of the Liverpool side – but his final appearance for the Reds saw him offloaded.
Indeed, the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid saw Karius join Besiktas on a two-year loan months later – with Alisson being signed. That two-year loan is coming to an end, and the goalkeeper was asked about returning to Anfield.
“I don’t take part in speculation. I have a contract in Liverpool until 2022,” Karius said. “I primarily text goalkeeper coach John Achterberg. He is my first point of contact. Now and then I text Klopp, I’m in good contact with everyone.”

TBR’s view – What does the future hold for Karius?
The £25,000-a-week () goalkeeper left with a bad taste in the mouth, and supporters heavily criticising the goalkeeper on social media. It is hard to see a way back for the stopper at Anfield, despite being contracted until 2022.
One thing is pretty much certain, though. A permanent move to Besiktas was already a doubt given the Turkish side’s financial issues – and the global health crisis will only worsen those problems. A return is likely, but he could sold on this summer.
