Liverpool fans want Wijnaldum to replicate international goalscoring form at club level

Gigi Wijnaldum has enjoyed a good season for Liverpool, proving his worth in the face of the new midfield recruits Jurgen Klopp brought to Anfield this summer.

He continued his good form by netting the opening goal as his country Holland saw off world champions France 2-0 on Friday night.

A brilliant night for the resurgent Dutch side was topped off by the fact their win relegated bitter rivals Germany into the second tier of the inaugural UEFA Nations League.

It also kept alive Ronald Koeman’s side’s hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals, where they could meet England out in Portugal next summer.
