Liverpool fans want club to beat Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa and sign ‘The Spider’
Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing River Plate striker Julian Alvarez, and could still remain keen – with Steven Gerrard in charge. Alvarez is earning rave reviews after netting 15 goals, in 16 goals this season. So much so, that Liverpool fans want the Argentina ace.
The 21-year-old is on fire. Before the start of the season, Alvarez had already clocked up 74 appearances for River – which in itself, is quite impressive. He had scored 16 goals, and laid on 17 assists in that time – with the five-time Argentina ace being used out wide just as much as up top.
But this season, Alvarez has been sensational – being used up top as a number nine. The striker is about to enter the last 12 months of his contract, despite having netted an enormous 15 goals in 16 games for River. Not only that, but he has also laid on six assists for his side.
That is 21 goal involvements in 16 games – little surprise that clubs are coming calling. that Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen are interested in signing Alvarez – while Gerrard’s new side Villa have sent scouts to watch the striker. He has a release clause worth £21million.

Villa hardly need a striker, though – and it might tempt Alvarez against a move. Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins are the two options up top – and they struggle to start together. Wesley is out on loan at Club Brugge. Leon Bailey, Bertrand Traore and Anwar El Ghazi can also play up top as strikers.
But Liverpool do need a striker. Divock Origi is pretty much nailed-on to leave Liverpool in either January, or next summer. Roberto Firmino’s impact is becoming less and less – currently injured. Diogo Jota is good, but he is better used as cover for Mo Salah or Sadio Mane.
What do Liverpool fans think of Villa target, on-fire Alvarez?
A bargain at £21million, Alvarez is showing enormous potential and in this day and age – is very cheap given his form. He scores goals, he creates goals and he would give Liverpool another dimension in the final third. say he is dubbed ‘The Spider’ – making a spider web when celebrating.
Liverpool prefer to sign younger players, ones that are pretty cheap. Alvarez fits the bill, he is a player that has massive potential – or huge resale value. He does not only fit the bill financially, but also in terms of style. He boasts huge attacking flair, goals, assists – he has a bit of everything.
Not only can he play as the nine, in place of Jota or Firmino – but his past as a winger would allow him to shine from the right, as cover for Salah. Liverpool fans were asked on Twitter if they felt beating Gerrard’s Villa to Alvarez was a good move – and many would like it to materialise.
