Liverpool fans tell ’embarrassing’ Trent Alexander-Arnold to ‘read the room’ after what he has done now

Trent Alexander-Arnold is one game away from seeing his Liverpool career come to an end.

The Premier League finale against Crystal Palace represents the final time the England international will walk out at Anfield, for now at least, as he prepares to walk away for free when his contract ends in June.

Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid, with Arne Slot all but announcing the news himself when suggesting he was giving Xabi Alonso an early “gift” by leaving the defender out of recent games.

Liverpool fans are upset with the man from West Derby, even booing him during the recent 5-1 win over Tottenham, a move Jurgen Klopp condemned, although supporters understandably feel hurt by the fact an academy graduate ran his contract down to join a European rival for free, rather than earn his boyhood club a fee.

Now, Trent Alexander-Arnold has done something else to annoy Liverpool fans.

Liverpool fans slam Trent Alexander-Arnold as farewell post appears to be an advertisement

Liverpool fans are now unhappy about the fact that even the 26-year-old’s farewell message seems to be commercialised.

Alexander-Arnold posted a tweet on X (previously known as Twitter) of his newly released Adidas Predator boots to commemorate his 20 years at Anfield, which the fanbase feel to be a cheap move.

One Liverpool fan said it was “embarrassing” of the right-back to find a marketing opportunity in his farewell, posting: “Last ever game for your boyhood club and you’re using it to promote a pair of Adidas boots. Embarrassing.”

A second Liverpool supporter simply told Alexander-Arnold to “read the room” after his tweet, amid accusations of him caring more about his image than leaving Anfield in a respectable manner.

Furthermore, a third Liverpool fan tweeted “can’t miss a marketing opportunity (can you) lad” along with an emoji showing somebody rolling their eyes.

Elsewhere, another Liverpool fan accused Alexander-Arnold of putting advertising over sentiment, writing: “Leaving post being an Adidas advert perfectly sums up this (rat).”

Last but not least, two more Liverpool fans expressed their unhappiness with the post.

One told Alexander-Arnold to “close the back door” on his way out after choosing to promote Adidas Predators over sending a more direct, heartfelt message to the fanbase.

A sixth Liverpool supporter joked that Alexander-Arnold may as well copy the likes of Gary Neville in promoting Huel as well as Adidas, a drink that is often advertised on The Overlap on Sky Sports.

The evidence which suggests Trent Alexander-Arnold knows he has handled this situation poorly

There was an interesting moment after the Reds suffered a 3-2 defeat at Brighton on Monday, where Alexander-Arnold could be seen staring at the buoyant Liverpool fans inside the Amex Stadium, passionately celebrating the title win regardless of the result.

The Liverpool No.66 looked almost annoyed at the jubilant scenes, either regretting the fact he will no longer get to play in front of this support, or ruing the fact he is now disliked by the majority for the way in which he has orchestrated a move to Real Madrid.

Whatever Alexander-Arnold is feeling, he has made his bed, and must now lie in it, as the saying goes.
