Liverpool fans react to reported Celtic interest Taiwo Awoniyi

Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi is reportedly attracting interest from Scottish club Celtic – and some Reds fans on Twitter have responded by claiming they would like to see him sold if it can help raise funds for Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara.

The reports that Celtic are eyeing 23-year-old Awoniyi the summer and he’s considered a potential replacement for them if they lose star man Odsonne Edouard.

It is understood that Liverpool value their player at £9million, despite the fact he’s still a prospect with no first-team appearances as he’s sent most his time at Anfield out on loan.

Awoniyi looks a long way from Jurgen Klopp’s senior squad as it stands and played just 12 times last season for German outfit Mainz, but Celtic are now looking at him.

A selection of Liverpool supporters on social media believe offloading Awoniyi would make sense, especially if it can help them build their transfer kitty and get closer to signing Thiago.

The claims that Liverpool want to sign 29-year-old midfielder Thiago from Champions League winners Bayern Munich, as he enters the final year of his deal with the German side.

But it’s unclear at this time whether the Reds will match his £29million valuation this summer.

The Spaniard is a world-class operator that would strengthen the options in the centre of the park for the Merseyside giants, but they’ve had a quiet transfer window so far.
