Liverpool fans react on Twitter to performance of Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool thrashed League One outfit Lincoln City 7-2 to set up a mouthwatering fourth-round clash with Arsenal next week.

Braces from Takumi Minamino and Curtis Jones were added to by goals from Xherdan Shaqiri, Marko Grujic and Divock Origi.

Tayo Edun and Lewis Montsma did earn a couple of consolation strikes for the Imps who in credit to them, never gave up.

It was a big opportunity for a lot of fringe players to impress Jurgen Klopp, none more so than Switzerland international Shaqiri.

Last season was disappointing for the winger, with injuries and a lack of game time contributing to a below-par campaign.

Now fully fit though the 28-year-old can have a part to play at Anfield during 2020/21 and he proved as much last night – albeit against lower league opposition.

Last season he contributed just a solitary goal from 11 outings but desperately struggled with a series of niggling injuries.

This season could be different, however, and last night showed he is up for the fight of trying to win a place in Klopp’s plans.

Shaqiri has 82 caps for his country and earns £80,000-a-week at Anfield.

Following his sparking performance last night we looked at what Liverpool fans were saying about the forward.
