Liverpool fans react as Xherdan Shaqiri is named in Champions League squad

Liverpool have named Xherdan Shaqiri in their squad for this season’s Champions League campaign – and supporters have been reacting on Twitter.

have confirmed that the Reds have named the Switzerland star in their ranks but there isn’t a place for Harry Wilson.

The winger is too old to be included on the B-list along with Curtis Jones and Neco Williams and therefore throws his future into limbo.

Wilson was the subject of summer interest from Burnley and unless he heads on loan to the Championship, he looks like being on the sidelines until January.

With the Wales international now seemingly out of contention, Shaqiri might have been thrown a Liverpool lifeline.

Liverpool have to face Ajax, Atalanta and FC Midtjylland in this year’s competition and the forward will now be available for the six fixtures.

The 28-year-old has played just once for the Reds this season and was linked with a move away during the transfer window.

During his only outing, his netted a brilliant free-kick in a 7-2 win over Lincoln City and many fans are pleased to see him in the Champions League squad.

Here is a selection of Tweets from the Liverpool faithful on the player’s inclusion.
