Liverpool fans react as Virgil van Dijk comments on Adrian, after Wednesday errors
Virgil van Dijk has claimed it was hard to take Adrian’s mistake as Atletico Madrid progressed into the Champions League quarter-finals at Anfield on Wednesday night – and Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter.
Liverpool lost 3-2 after extra-time on the night, and 4-2 on aggregate – despite taking a 2-0 lead through Roberto Firmino’s strike. A brace from Marcos Llorente and then a late Alvaro Morata striker saw Liverpool fail to reach the next round.
Adrian was at fault for the first Atletico goal – and probably the third. His awful clearance saw Atleti punish the Spanish goalkeeper, as substitute Llorente finished from 20 yards out. Adrian slipped as he tried to rectify his mistake.
Llorente scored a wonderful second, before Morata netted late on as Liverpool pushed forward. The ex-Chelsea man scored at Adrian’s near post, and van Dijk admitted Adrian was at fault – and that his mistake was hard to take.

“Anyone can make a mistake,” “It happens. But Adrian’s misjudgement seemed to turn the game around. You win together, you lose together. Things happen in matches. We lost. That’s tough to take.”
Adrian joined Liverpool last summer after his contract at West Ham had expired. But Adrian could never have imagined that he would have clocked up 20 outings in all competitions, acting as cover for Alisson.
Van Dijk was clearly in despondant mood after Liverpool were knocked out of the competition on Wednesday night, but Liverpool fans have reacted to his comments – with many criticising the Dutch defender for being so harsh.
It’s not a question of if he’s wrong or not. You simply don’t say that about your teammate

Someone is believing their own hype and throwing teammates under the team bus then

Poor leadership, you don't say that about a teammate in public even if they sold the game

Tbh although Adrian made the mistake, our defensive line shouldn't have let the player shoot at all, a tactical foul should have happened asap
