Liverpool fans react as Nat Phillips returns to Merseyside from Stuttgart loan
Liverpool have confirmed on their official website that centre-back Nat Phillips has been recalled from his loan spell at German side Stuttgart to provide cover to Jurgen Klopp’s side over the next handful of games – and Reds fans have reacted on Twitter.
Phillips – who joined Liverpool in the summer of 2016 from Bolton Wanderers – is yet to make his senior debut for Liverpool. But the 22-year-old was a regular in Liverpool’s Under-23 side, and is now hoping to get some first-team action.
He joined Stuttgart in the summer to gain some playing time, immediately after signing a long-term deal at Anfield. He has since managed 11 appearances for Stuttgart, but has now been recalled by The Reds.
Dejan Lovren is currently sidelined through injury due to a muscle injury, while Joel Matip is sidelined through a knee injury – which is keeping Cameroon defender out of action for a considerable amount of time.
With Sepp van der Berg still relatively young, Liverpool are left with just Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez as recognised first-team options. Fabinho is also injured, leaving Jordan Henderson to play at centre-back against Monterrey in the Club World Cup.
Now, Phillips has been recalled and will be able to play for Liverpool from January 1 – making him available for the FA Cup third round clash against Merseyside rivals Everton. Reds fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that Phillips has returned.
Feels like a new signing imo.

Great idea. Loan team will have been monitoring his performances. Hopefully he can provide adequate cover when needed then return to Stuttgart for the remainder of the season.
