Liverpool fans react as Gini Wijnaldum comments on his future
Some Liverpool fans have been reacting to comments made by midfielder Gini Wijnaldum about his contract situation.
The Netherlands international’s current deal at Anfield expires in the summer of 2021, and there has been some clamour recently for him to extend following some terrific form for the Reds.

Indeed, Wijnaldum – who cost £25 million in 2016 () – has become a hugely important member of Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI, and arguably 2019/20 has been one of his best seasons since arriving in English football.
Despite there only being 18 months remaining on his current deal, Wijnaldum isn’t currently in any rush to pen a fresh contract.

: “I’m just focusing on bringing this season to a good end and that’s the only thing I’m thinking of.
“What would I like? It is difficult to say. It depends on what the club wants and how the situation is at that time. We will see.”
Liverpool, of course, are in an extremely healthy position right now and stand to win their first league title for 30 years and first ever Premier League trophy.

Perhaps Wijnaldum merely sees contract talks as a potential distraction at this moment in time.
He’s been in wonderful form, and he probably wants to avoid the initial pressures of signing a deal that would very likely increase his wages and therefore bring more scrutiny.

Some Liverpool fans on social media were a little disappointed by Wijnaldum’s reluctance to acknowledge his contract situation:
Man I’d be gutted if he left ?

Hope it’s not another Emre Can situation.

underwhelming response for someone at the champions of europe and the world

His social media has become incredibly cryptic over the past few weeks as well…

In all fairness Id say the same to my employers if I was negotiating new terms. Take the comments with a pinch of salt

I’d personally sign him up long term. Model professional, still loads to offer, eventually leading to him becoming a natural successor to Milner as a utility player.

Gini Wijnaldum, whether you’re like it or not, is one of Liverpool’s most important players. No chance Klopp is okay with him leaving on a free. He’s Klopp’s most picked player, vital to the system, what player in the squad fills his role? No one.

I don’t care what it takes just give Gini Wijnaldum whatever he wants to sign new contract .
— Ahmed Elhafi (@AhmedLFC91)
Get the man what he wants and needs. Not many out their are at his level. Would be a disaster to loose him. fix Gini’s contract asap.
