Liverpool fans react as Alberto Moreno helps Villarreal to famous win
Alberto Moreno helped Villarreal win the Europa League last night and Liverpool fans were buzzing over the defeat for Manchester United.
After a 1-1 draw during 120 minutes of play, it was a penalty shootout which decided the first major European final of the campaign.
With the scores locked at 10-10, David de Gea stepped up and saw his effort saved by Geronimo Rulli.
The result means United finish the season minus a trophy and Liverpool fans love that Moreno helped that become a reality.
Moreno joined the La Liga side in 2019 after his contract at Anfield expired. He made 141 appearances for the Reds and had to work hard to establish himself.
It’s been a tough old season for him during 2020/21. He’s managed just nine appearances for Villarreal after spending most of the season nursing a problem with his ACL.
He will have enjoyed last night though as the La Liga side claimed their first ever major trophy.
Unai Emery’s stock has risen since leaving Arsenal and his team will now enter the Champions League during 2021/22.
Following last night’s stunning victory over United, Liverpool supporters were quick to congratulate Moreno on his success.
