Liverpool fans praise ‘immense’ 24-year-old for display in Southampton win
Liverpool beat Southampton on Saturday night in the Premier League – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter picked out Nathaniel Phillips as a standout performer for them.
The Reds secured a 2-0 home win against Southampton to boost their chances of Champions League football for next season, albeit it’s still out of their hands.
Sadio Mane opened the scoring at Anfield against his former club in the first half, before Thiago Alcantara wrapped up the victory with his 90th minute strike from the edge of the box.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are sixth in the Premier League table right now six points adrift of fourth-placed Leicester City, but they have played a game less.
It keeps the Merseyside giants in contention for a top-four finish. However, it may take a faultless end to the season in their remaining four games to climb up the table.

Despite the two goals at the other end of the pitch, a selection of Liverpool supporters on social media named defender Phillips as a key player tonight.
The 24-year-old centre-back was kept busy against a Southampton side that were front-footed at Anfield, which is why Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker also had to be on top of his game.
Here are some Liverpool fans praising Phillips:
