Liverpool fans love what Steven Gerrard did with Xherdan Shaqiri before Rangers defeat to Lyon

Steven Gerrard watched his Rangers side lose to Xherdan Shaqiri and Lyon – but Liverpool fans loved the duo’s embrace before kick-off.

Shaqiri completed a move to Lyon in the latter stages of the window. The French club chose to sign Shaqiri to breathe life into a poor 21-22 start.

It seems to have worked. Making his debut on the weekend, Shaqiri got an assist in Lyon’s first win of the season – a 3-1 victory over Strasbourg.

He started on the bench on Thursday night at Ibrox. Rangers, without a number of key players, looked to get their group stage off the right way.

However, a gorgeous goal from Karl-Toko Ekambi and a scrappy one from Islam Slimani saw Rangers succumb to a 2-0 home defeat by Lyon.

Before the match, Gerrard and Shaqiri are seen on the touchline embracing with both all smiles before the whistle – the Liverpool connection on show.

What do Liverpool fans think about Shaqiri and Rangers boss Gerrard?

Gerrard is obviously a legend at the club, but Shaqiri remains well-liked among supporters. Even just before he left, fans wanted him to play.

It was not as if the overriding feeling was that Shaqiri had outstayed his welcome at Anfield. That is, despite numerous injuries and no momentum.

However, a move to Lyon will see Shaqiri play week in, week out under an exciting gaffer in Bosz. Rangers, meanwhile, are yet to get going this season.

Unbeaten in the 20-21 league, they are struggling to rediscover that form. Nevertheless, Liverpool fans love Gerrard and Shaqiri – and their embrace.
