Liverpool fans have one complaint about Arne Slot after watching Aston Villa’s 3-2 Champions League win vs PSG
As Aston Villa beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 in the second leg of the quarter-final of the Champions League quarter-final, Liverpool fans would have been stunned by the seamless nature of their victory.
PSG ultimately won 5-4 on aggregate but Unai Emery’s side made the French giants dig as deep as possible to earn their qualification to the Champions League semi-finals — something that cannot be said about the Reds as they were well-beaten over two legs in the last-16.
While Liverpool won the first leg 1-0 at the Parc des Princes, they lost 1-0 at Anfield and ultimately tasted defeat on penalties and on the balance of play, Luis Enrique’s side were the deserved victors.
On the other hand, Villa could well have gone through to the next round had Marcos Asensio and Ezri Konsa taken their gilt-edged chances as Unai Emery can consider his side rather unfortunate.
But as Liverpool fans watched Aston Villa dominate PSG in the Champions League, they rued Arne Slot being overly cautious against the Ligue 1 side that were there for the taking despite being a brilliant outfit.

Liverpool fans blame Arne Slot for being too cautious vs PSG after Aston Villa’s victory
One Liverpool fan claimed Slot gave PSG too much respect after watching Aston Villa tear them to shreds for much of their latest Champions League outing: “I think Arne Slot gave PSG too much respect.”
Another Liverpool fan felt that Arne Slot’s lack of experience in the Champions League, which Unai Emery has in abundance was evident as Aston Villa earned a shock win against PSG: “Liverpool vs PSG, we really allowed PSG to play their possession football. We messed up. We shouldn’t have allowed them to and that’s because Arne Slot doesn’t have UCL experience. Look at how Emery is playing against the PSG.”
A third supporter claimed that if it was Jurgen Klopp instead of Slot, the Merseyside-based club would have knocked the Parisians out of Europe’s elite competition: “I love what Slot has done with Liverpool this season giving them such control but last seasons Klopp team beats this PSG team. The high-pressing, counter-attacking style would storm this PSG side. Villa doing exactly that.”
A fourth Liverpool fan claimed Arne Slot and his side’s collective showing was inexcusable after witnessing how well Aston Villa played on Tuesday: “Love Slot and I maintain that we’re blessed to have him after Klopp left but there’s absolutely no excuse for that showing against PSG. Especially when Villa have fed the same team.”
Another Lfan’s observation was that Arne Slot needs to change how he approaches knockout football: “Slot needs to pattern his KO game style of play. Think he’ll naturally improve itl [in the league] with his own core of players/less fringe players too. But idk [I don’t know], in the one-off games like Newcastle and both PSG games, something just felt very off. Lost the first leg to Spurs in the Carabao.”
Finally, sixth Liverpool fan was upset that Arne Slot’s tactics meant PSG looked like Barcelona’s legendary team in the 2010/2011 season despite them being bossed by Aston Villa: “Slot had this PSG team looking like 2011 Barca”, followed by three ‘angry-face emojis.’
The past is the best, however and Slot can be proud of the fact that in his debut season, he is set to lift the Premier League title and could have possibly even won more trophies.
The costly mistake Liverpool made that cost Arne Slot vs PSG
Considering how brave Aston Villa were against PSG, Liverpool fans have every right to question why Arne Slot could not muster up a similar performance in either leg.
However, one costly error that Slot’s side made was not keeping the ball enough and managing both games.
Liverpool often went long in the first leg and in the second, they lost control of the contest after an encouraging first-half — allowing PSG to regain their dominance — a mistake where one has to question where the approach in itself was down to Arne Slot’s instructions or the players playing the occasion and not the game.
