Liverpool fans find joy in Lucas Digne’s difficult Everton display

Everton are out of the FA Cup as their miserable recent form continued at The Den last night. Everton twice gave away a lead to lose 3-2 with some woeful individual performances from Marco Silva’s men.

Of course, Everton are rightly disappointed by Jake Cooper’s second equaliser, which he scored with his hand. But even the most optimistic Everton fan must admit Everton deserved nothing from this weak display.

His signing immediately drew the attention of local rivals, Liverpool. It emerged Digne had a ‘you never walk alone’ tattoo, with some Reds fans suggesting he was a Liverpool fan.

He refuted those claims. The French international suggested he had in fact twice rejected Liverpool transfers.

“It’s not about football, when I was 3 or 4 years old on my first day of school my parents gave me a necklace with these words and after I got them tattooed.

“But maybe it’s because the Liverpool fans are angry that I said two times ‘no’ to Liverpool. I’m blue.”

He has been popular with the Goodison faithful ever since. His attacking attributes are clear. He has a great cross and bombs forward from left-back. It has seen some Everton fans suggest he is better than Liverpool’s left-back Andrew Robertson.

Defensively, however, he has been non-existent at times.

Last night was no different. He gave away two absolutely brainless free kicks and was outjumped for the opener. It is not the first time he has been defensively naive in an Everton shirt this season.

Liverpool fans enjoyed it, suggesting that Digne was more like their back-up left-back Alberto Moreno than their starting Scot.
