Liverpool fans discuss performance of Nico Barella during Sunday win

Liverpool fans watched this afternoon’s National League third-place play-off with intrigue; with supporters now hoping the Reds are looking at Inter star Nico Barella.

The player scored as Italy ended the competition on a high and claimed third place by beating Belgium. Roberto Mancini’s men won 2-1 with Domenico Berardi adding a second goal.

For Liverpool fans, they saw a player who could potentially come in and do a job in midfield. Gini Wijnaldum left Anfield in the summer and perhaps the fan base have Barella in mind as a replacement.

Barella signed for Inter in 2019 from Cagliari. He spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan with the Serie A side before heading back to try and make an impact with Inter.

Last season he showcased his worth considerably to the Inter cause. He scored three goals and claimed a staggering 13 assists during the 2020/21 campaign, with Inter romping to the Serie A title.

He’s hit the ground running this season too. Barella has scored once and claimed five assists with the champions unbeaten in the league.

Could Liverpool realistically sign Barella?

Possibly. They were linked in the summer, although at the time, the refuted such claims.

Inter’s financial situation is unclear, although they did receive a massive transfer fee from the sale of Romelu Lukaku during the summer just gone.

It is thought that Barella is valued at £60 million by Inter and that isn’t a stereotypical sum for Liverpool to be paying out.

With the club landing just Ibrahima Konate as their star signing this summer, perhaps the club will go bid in future transfer windows.

Whether or not the player would be attracted to Liverpool remains to be seen.

What have Liverpool fans said about Barella’s performance?

It seems clear that supporters would relish the chance to see the Italian playmaker strutting his stuff on the Anfield turf.

It’s fair to say that not many are convinced the club has the power to go out and sign a player with such quality.

That hasn’t stopped supporters from raving about his performance today, however, with plenty taking to Twitter.

Here is what the fan base have said after Barella’s showing earlier today.
