Liverpool: Dortmund defender linked; Lucas reveals future; enquiries for Sakho
After Borussia Dortmund central defender Neven Subotic spoke to praise his former boss Jurgen Klopp, the claimed that his agent has refused to rule out a move to Anfield this month. Subotic told the press:
“Klopp has been my mentor for nine years, he supported me, encouraged me, had trust in me. With him and Dortmund I had the most amazing time. For that I am forever thankful. He was and is an important person in my life and I owe him a lot.”
The German has struggled with injuries of late and reportedly failed a medical at Middlesbrough in the summer transfer window, raising question marks over whether he has the quality to improve the Liverpool squad.
After weeks of speculation, midfielder Lucas has spoken out to address rumours about his future by explaining that whilst he is unhappy with his game time, he knows that he may be a needed option for Klopp this season. He :
“The situation is not great. It is not something I want for my future, to have not many games. I don’t want this for my career, especially at my age. I’m not close to retiring and have many years ahead of me… The best place for me to be now is Liverpool. I cannot say (where) in one week’s time, one month’s time or four months’ time. I have to judge when something comes up if it is better. It has been a special season already and we have a chance to win trophies and that is something I consider as well.”
The Brazilian captained the side against Plymouth in the FA Cup third round at the weekend but has made just 14 appearances so far this season.
There has been renewed interest in the services of Mamadou Sakho though, with claiming that La Liga side Sevilla have made an enquiry whilst the claim that Swansea are also interested in the Frenchman.
The ex-Paris Saint-Germain captain seemingly has no future at Anfield with a move expected shortly, but the Reds’ asking price has caused problems with few clubs willing or able to meet it yet.
