Dietmar Hamann backs Atletico Madrid for ‘tear up’ against Liverpool at Anfield

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has suggested to that Jurgen Klopp’s team could exit the Champions League when they face Atletico Madrid next month.

The Reds trail 1-0 from the first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano with Liverpool failing to register a shot on target during the contest.

Many are claiming the game will be a different game back at Anfield but Hamann thinks Liverpool might encounter similar difficulties in breaking down Diego Simeone’s team.

“It will be difficult for Liverpool after the defeat at Atletico.

“After winning 4-0 in the second leg last season against Barcelona (in the semi-finals), everyone thinks they can do it, but they didn’t have a single on goal in Madrid.

“It nothing new, however, that they have their problems away from home, that was already the case last season. Atletico will also tear up in Liverpool, I expect a fascinating second leg.”

Liverpool roared to Champions League glory last season with breathtaking football and a real togetherness in their play.

Whether they can come from behind against Atletico remains to be seen and they will certainly need to be better than they were last week.

Given how they have played at Anfield during the last 18 months, however, you wouldn’t be backing against them.

Treble

Liverpool are walking the Premier League and they will be able to put maximum effort into the cup competitions.

Winning the Champions League for a second season running will be something that Klopp desperately wants to do.

The treble dream is still alive and Liverpool will hope to ram Hamann’s words down his throat when they meet again.
