Liverpool defender Rhys Williams heaps Instagram praise on Everton loanee
Anthony Gordon made his debut for loan side Preston North End over the weekend during a 2-1 defeat to Rotherham United after joining the Championship side from Everton in January – and Liverpool player Rhys Williams has reacted to his display.
Gordon, 20, joined Preston on loan from Everton towards the end of the January market and he started against Rotherham on Saturday. He lasted 66 minutes before being taken off, as Alex Neil’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to the Yorkshire side.
It comes after Gordon had broken into the Everton side last season, and has since played 20 times in all competitions – yet to score but clocking up five assists. But this term, he has managed just 87 minutes in the Premier League.
Gordon posted on Instagram following his debut for Preston, underlining his delight to make his Championship debut but also explaining his frustration at failing to help Preston win in his first match – as Rotherham nabbed all three points.
The winger is likely to be looking to play regularly before the end of the season, and will be aiming to find the back of the net before he returns to Everton. Certainly, his signature is a bit of a coup for Preston, given he has started multiple Everton games.
Gordon played alongside Liverpool’s teenage defender Williams for England’s Under-19 side during 2019 – and Williams was born in Preston. Putting rivalry between the Merseyside clubs aside, Williams applauded Gordon on his Instagram post.
