Liverpool: defender Bournemouth-bound; Chilwell and Meyer update; Barca star link?

The major news to emerge from Anfield last night was the news that left back Brad Smith is headed out of Liverpool, with Bournemouth his destination if are correct. With a fee of £6 million and a reported buy-back clause included in the deal, it does protect Liverpool and seemingly represents a good piece of business for all parties as the Australian follows in the footsteps of Jordon Ibe.

After ten first team appearances last season, it seemed as though the 22-year-old may have made a long awaited breakthrough, but with rumours claiming Jurgen Klopp is looking for another young left-back, it seems that Smith is no longer needed and the Australian is set to leave to find first-team football to help him retain his place in his national side.

There have also been developments in the future of Joe Allen, according to the . With Swansea said to be discussing a move, Stoke are hoping to rush a deal through, after a £13 million deal had already agreed. The Welshman; who made the Euro 2016 team of the tournament, is set to meet Mark Hughes tomorrow to discuss a potential move.

Allen may be keen on a return to Wales, but it is known that he has a lot of admiration for the former manager of his country and a Welsh legend in Mark Hughes, who would be pivotal if Allen does end up a Potter next season. For Liverpool, Allen’s exit is sadly inevitable as he struggles to find a place in the first team and with Klopp bringing in plenty of other options in midfield.

Lazar Markovic also looks set to depart with speculation suggesting that Fiorentina could make a move for the Serbian. The  report that the Italian club are set to make an offer of a season long loan, with a view to making it a permanent deal for £8 million at the end of the season.

Despite being on tour with the Reds, the winger looks destined to leave the club this summer with Jurgen Klopp unconvinced by the ex-Benfica man since he returned from his loan spell in Turkey last season. Another loan would give him one last chance to prove himself to Klopp, but also takes the first step towards an exit, although if an £8 million future fee is agreed, that would represent a £12 million loss for the Merseyside club.

After securing yet another target in Georgino Wijnaldum, claim that Jurgen Klopp’s attentions will now focus on German talent Max Meyer. They claim that the club have enquirer regarding the Schalke star’s availability ahead of a possible £28 million bid.

However, having already spent £25 million on Wijnaldum and £30 million on Sadio Mane, it is hard to see where Meyer would fit into a side which already possesses a wealth of attacking midfielders in the form of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and, at times, James Milner. With major defensive worries and injury concerns over Daniel Sturridge, it could easily be claimed that the money could be better spent elsewhere.

A less positive piece of news is in Jurgen Klopp’s pursuit of young Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell, who is reportedly set to sign a new deal at the champions. say that this will put an end to speculation linking the talented England youth international with a move to Anfield, and is a massive blow for the Reds.

After Claudio Ranieri confirmed the new contract extension to the , it seems that attentions will now return to Aston Villa left back Jordan Amavi, who has been subject to rumours of an £8 million bid as Liverpool look to provide competition for Alberto Moreno, who suffered some poor form in the second half of last season.

Rumours briefly emerged that Ivan Rakitic could be looking to leave the Camp Nou after Barcelona signed Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes and his agent tweeted “I think it’s time to go…”, sparking speculation in the .

However, the rumours were rubbished shortly after, as Rakitic himself confirmed that he has changed agents in recent weeks and is no longer connected to the man behind the tweet.
