Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson awarded 7/10 for Euro 2020 warm-up display
Liverpool defender Andrew Roberston enjoyed a solid night as he captained Scotland to victory over Luxembourg on Sunday.
Steve Clarke’s side claimed a narrow 1-0 win at the Stade Josy Barthel in their final warm-up fixture for Euro 2020. Southampton striker Che Adams scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half, having seen a second be ruled out for a foul.
Robertson was unable to add a third assist in as many international outings during his for the Tartan Army. He had set Kevin Nisbet up to fire Scotland ahead against the Netherlands last Wednesday before Liverpool-linked Memphis Depay equalised.
Victory over Luxembourg ensures Scotland head into Euro 2020 unbeaten in their last five international fixtures. They have also only lost once in their last 12 when Robertson has featured dating back to 2019.
Robertson’s efforts during his hour on the field has seen the Reds full-back earn praise from the Scottish media. The awarded the 27-year-old a 7/10 rating, having carried his domestic form onto the international stage.
“Provided more deliveries than a Just Eat driver. The skipper is bringing his Liverpool game to the national team, throwing countless crosses into the box and superbly dovetailing with [Kieran] Tierney,” they wrote.
The Daily Record only awarded Arsenal’s Tierney a higher rating than Roberston at 8/10. The remainder of Clarke’s side were either graded at six or lower, including match-winner Adams.
TBR’s view: Liverpool will be pleased with Robertson
Robertson ended Liverpool’s Premier League season strongly by providing two assists in the penultimate fixture at Burnley. He had not created a goal under Jurgen Klopp before that. But he will now enter Euro 2020 on the back of a creative run in friendlies.
Liverpool will be pleased to see Robertson offering a creative touch, even if the assist was not there on Sunday. Especially given how few he was able to offer Klopp after the turn of the year.
His assists in the 2020/21 Premier League season marked a from the previous term. The Glasgow native also enjoyed a wider spread of assists in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign. They will now be itching to see Roberston create more this summer.
