Liverpool decide whether they will rival Newcastle United and make bid to sign Marc Guehi
- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Amid their search for a new centre-back to bolster Arne Slot’s options at Liverpool this season, Marc Guehi has been linked with a move to Anfield.
Guehi enjoyed an excellent tournament for England in Germany this summer, and appears ready to take the next step after starring for Crystal Palace in similar fashion.
At 24-years-old, Guehi won’t be short of suitors should he choose to leave south London this summer.
The centre-back reportedly has two-years remaining on his contract at Palace, who will still be keen to extend that stay.
Slot’s side are in the market for a new centre-back right now given Joel Matip left on a free transfer this summer and speculation remains over Virgil van Dijk’s long-term future at Liverpool.
Slot has been impressed by Sepp van den Berg in pre-season, but it seems as if the 22-year-old can still leave Liverpool for the right price.
That being said, TBR Football understands that Liverpool are not planning a move for Guehi this summer.
Liverpool not planning to enter bidding war with Newcastle for Marc Guehi
Although Slot’s side are in the market and are being kept informed regarding Guehi’s situation, Liverpool will not be joining Newcastle United in making an offer for the England international.
Newcastle recently opened negotiations to sign Guehi, a move that would be a real statement should Eddie Howe and his team pull it off.

However, Liverpool have presumably decided that the rumoured £60m fee for Guehi or the level of competition for his signature is enough to veto a move.
It would be something of a surprise if the Reds didn’t strengthen at all in the area before the end of August, but perhaps they will switch their attention to targets elsewhere.
Liverpool can sign Goncalo Inacio for a cut-price after Sporting CP lowered their demands recently.
And perhaps Richard Hughes and his team still have some surprise alternatives up their sleeve as they plan a late quest to strengthen Slot’s squad this month.
All that being said, Liverpool insiders have had their say on the club’s lack of summer signings so far.
