Liverpool: Coutinho tipped for Barcelona move; bid rejected for defender; Klopp reveals midfielder’s future

Brazilian star Rivaldo has become the latest name to suggest that Liverpool forward Philippe Coutinho could complete a move to his former club Barcelona as he told :

“In my opinion, he’s a great player and a player who knows Neymar well. I think they are both friends – players who stand out. I think that this transfer might happen because Barcelona is always going to attract the best, isn’t it? He is one of the players who stands out and I believe that this transfer – if he goes to Barcelona – would be a good thing for Barcelona for sure. He is a player who would definitely help Barcelona. Of course, Barcelona is a big club, but with a player like him, it would definitely be a big help.”

Having missed nearly two months with an ankle ligament injury, the left sided attacker completed 65 minutes for the Reds at Plymouth Argyle in midweek and could start against Swansea this weekend.

One man who is nowhere near the first team picture is Mamadou Sakho, but the claim that the club have turned down a loan offer from Southampton for the Frenchman. They say that the Reds are holding out for a permanent deal this month and are determined to get as close to £20 million as possible.

It seems likely that Sakho will depart Anfield this month, but it remains to be seen if the club will be successful in gaining the permanent deal which they are hoping for.

Jurgen Klopp has, however, revealed that Lucas Leiva will be staying at the club at least until the end of the season after the Brazilian scored the winning goal whilst wearing the captain’s armband in the FA Cup Third Round replay. The manager replied to a question from the media about whether he would be staying to :

“From my point of view, yes. What is ‘definitely’ in this job? We have a kind of agreement, so I would say yes. He played in an old-against-young match last week when we finished training and he was top scorer. I was really surprised he didn’t score for that long, but he has a great personality, is a good player and a really good guy. Sometimes you have to line up without him, and it’s not his hobby to accept this, but he’s OK and really important for us.”

The experienced holding midfielder is a valuable member of the Liverpool squad and has proven as much in his displays this season despite interest from abroad.
