Liverpool could now make a record-breaking bid to sign ‘unbelievable’ player after Hugo Ekitike
Liverpool have had an incredible summer transfer window so far.
The Reds were the best team in the country last season and deservedly won the Premier League title. They could’ve just rested on their laurels, but Arne Slot has gone big.
Liverpool have already signed Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez in this window, and Hugo Ekitike was announced on Wednesday as well.
That makes this a massive window already, but the Merseyside giants could still make another big move in the coming days.
Liverpool could still table a record-breaking bid for Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak has been Liverpool’s dream target all summer.
The Swede is one of the best strikers in the world, and almost every club in Europe would love to sign him if he became available.
Liverpool even approached Newcastle for Isak earlier in July, but the Magpies have, so far, stood firm and said that their star striker is not for sale.
However, ahead of a friendly recently, Isak was sent home by Eddie Howe, who initially played down all the noise but later confirmed that he was left out of the squad due to speculation around his future.
Now, Ben Jacobs has claimed that Liverpool could table a British record bid for Isak, even though they have already signed Ekitike.
The journalist said on the Latte Firm: “If you add up Eddie Howe pre-match saying that Isak was simply rested to ease him into pre-season, and Eddie Howe post-match saying that he wasn’t involved due to speculation, then the fact there’s a photograph of Isak training alone – whether or not Newcastle’s position is genuine or not – it’s a perfect storm. Absolutely.
“So, suitors will feel a little bit encouraged, like if they bid, there might be a way of turning the player’s head. And if Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz leave Liverpool, there’s still a chance that they place that British transfer record bid.
“And I know people won’t like to hear that if you’re Arsenal fans, but there is still a chance. And if there doesn’t materialise an exit now, keep an eye on January or next summer because I don’t think this Liverpool and Isak story is over.”
What Liverpool need to do before bidding for Alexander Isak
As things stand, Liverpool’s focus should be on outgoings, with the futures of Diaz and Nunez both very much up in the air.
If the two South American attackers end up leaving the club, space will open up for another forward, and there’s nobody better than Isak.
The Swede, hailed as ‘‘ by Paul Merson, will make this already-great Liverpool side even better. He is absolutely world-class, and we think Liverpool will definitely win the Premier League title again if they land him.
However, even if the Reds table a British record bid to sign Isak, it’s still up to Newcastle United to decide whether they want to let him go or not.
