Liverpool could end up regretting their decision to permanently axe Matty Virtue
Liverpool decided to let youngster Matty Virtue leave on a permanent basis just before last Thursday’s deadline.
Blackpool completed the signing of Virtue on a two-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee, .
The young central midfielder had been highly rated by Liverpool but a lack of first-team opportunities held back his progress.
The path to the first-team was blocked by a number of talented midfielders and he was only loaned out once.
Virtue spent the second half of last season with League Two side Notts County, playing 15 times and impressing as he guided them to the play-offs.
But now, the 21-year-old has completed a permanent move away from Liverpool to kick-start his career with first-team game time in League One.
And Virtue will be aiming to go one better than his new central midfield team-mate Jay Spearing and prove Liverpool wrong.
Virtue has the potential to make the grade at the top level but he needs to prove himself in the Football League first.
Liverpool have let several young midfielders go over the years, including Spearing and Jordan Rossiter. The Reds are yet to regret any of these decisions but Virtue can change that if he fulfils his potential.
