Liverpool could actually bid for £65m player closer to transfer deadline day

Liverpool are about to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia – although a new central defender could also arrive at Anfield.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool are close to signing Mamardashvili from Valencia – and the Georgia international will then be loaned out until Alisson Becker relinquishes the No.1 shirt.

Additionally, as you may have already heard, Joe Gomez was left out by Arne Slot for Saturday’s 2-0 win over Ipswich as the England international looks set to leave Anfield.

Furthermore, Sepp van den Berg is close to leaving Liverpool in a £20m deal as the Dutchman targets regular football elsewhere.

As Joe Gomez and Sepp van den Berg prepare to leave, there is a belief that Liverpool could bid for one of the best central defenders in the Premier League

Liverpool could make move to sign Marc Guehi

A story from the now makes an interesting claim about Liverpool and Marc Guehi.

The Crystal Palace No.6 has been the subject of four bids from Newcastle after his outstanding displays for England at UEFA Euro 2024 this summer – the most recent of which was worth £65m.

However – while that is Crystal Palace’s asking price – the offer was rejected, as it was £60m including £5m in bonus payments, whereas Steve Parish wants a guaranteed £65m.

Now, Liverpool could meet that asking price as Slot’s centre-back department becomes thinner.

The Express write that “there remains a feeling” Liverpool will bid for Guehi closer to transfer deadline day on Friday 30th August, regardless of Newcastle making an improved fifth offer or not.

Another reason why Richard Hughes could bid

Aside from the situations involving Gomez and Van den Berg, there is another reason why Richard Hughes – Director of Football at Anfield – could bid for Guehi.

Slot showed his dissatisfaction with Jarell Quansah on Saturday after hauling the Liverpool No.78 off at half-time in place of Ibrahima Konate, complaining that the England U21 international did not win enough duels up against Liam Delap.

Therefore, the 45-year-old may not feel comfortable embarking on the 2024/25 campaign with Virgil van Dijk, Konate and Quansah as his only options in the centre of defence.

In truth, three options is not really enough for a season which involves UEFA Champions League football anyway.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Liverpool could soon bid for Guehi.
