Liverpool can provide Tottenham with big boost over 30-year-old defender
Liverpool can hand Tottenham Hotspur an enormous boost this summer after a report claimed AS Roma want to sign Dejan Lovren, meaning Toby Alderweireld could remain in north London.
Roma have been linked for much of the window with a move for 30-year-old Spurs defender Alderweireld. The Belgian has less than 12 months remaining on his contract in north London, but his £25million clause has expired.
Despite that clause ending, Roma remain interested and are not giving up in pursuit of the former Southampton, Atletico Madrid and Ajax defender. However, Liverpool could help Spurs keep the Belgian ace.
That is because Roma are also keen on Lovren. claims that the Croatian rock wants to leave Anfield this summer, and that Roma are keen on bringing him to Italy for £18.3million.

Roma have been after a centre-back all summer though they only need one player to fill the gap. Lovren and Roma could be a match made in heaven, and he is likely to prove a lot cheaper than Alderweireld.
With a move for Lovren likely to be much easier to engineer given that Lovren is keen on leaving Liverpool after he played just 18 matches last term, Roma may be tempted to for the Croat over Alderweireld. It is claimed in the report that Lovren wants to leave Liverpool.
If such a move does occur, then Spurs are much more likely to keep Alderweireld with Roma showing the most interest in the Tottenham ace. It is likely to be another transfer rumour-filled month for Alderweireld.
