Liverpool are seriously interested in signing ‘one of the best’ midfielders in the world
Liverpool are said to be ‘in the conversation’ to buy a midfielder who is said to be of interest to a host of Europe’s elite clubs this summer.
Before Arne Slot’s arrival on Merseyside, Liverpool completed something of a midfield overhaul in Jurgen Klopp’s last significant transfer window.

Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, and James Milner all left – players who were playing a significant role under Klopp.
And in their place, all of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo started their exciting Liverpool careers.
Therefore, it would be something of a surprise if Liverpool focused their window on signing a central midfielder, but sometimes talents are simply too good to ignore.
And following news that Sepp van den Berg could solve Slot’s centre-back vacancy, perhaps funds have been freed up for pursuits elsewhere.
Although all has been quiet on the transfer front to date at Anfield this summer, plans are now expected to gather pace given there’s just seven or so weeks remaining in the window.
Liverpool ‘in the conversation’ to sign Benfica star Joao Neves this summer
To that end, Portuguese source are now reporting that Liverpool are ‘in the conversation’ to sign Benfica midfielder Joao Neves.
The 19-year-old was at Euro 2024 with Portugal this summer but has only just broken into the squad, explaining his lack of minutes.

But along with Manchester United, who have long-term interest in Neves, Liverpool are said to be seriously interested in the midfielder who is already dubbed as ‘one of the best‘ in the world.
As stated, it would be a surprise if Slot and his team were willing to part with such a figure to improve an already well-stacked area of their squad, but similarly Neves could be a flagship player of the new Slot era.
Perhaps Liverpool fans will feel that those funds are better spent elsewhere, perhaps on the addition of a new wide-forward.
In that regard, Juventus’ Federico Chiesa springs to mind, who has reportedly decided that he wants to leave Italy this summer.
Alternatively, Liverpool could even take a gamble on Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto, whose ability is somewhat undermined by his injury history.
Either way, it will be fascinating to learn where Slot best feels his new squad needs strengthening, one left in great shape by Klopp.
