Liverpool are now no longer favourites to sign ‘extraordinary’ player
Liverpool have been linked with a number of midfield options heading into this summer transfer window.
The Reds signed four new midfielders last year, but it would appear their recruitment in that area isn’t done yet.
Indeed, Merseyside club have been linked with a number of midfield targets, and perhaps the most prominent link has been to Teun Koopmeiners.
The Dutch midfielder is someone Arne Slot knows well from his time in the Eredivisie, and a move would’ve made a lot of sense.
However, by the sounds of it, the Reds have lost ground in the race to sign Koopmeiners.

Liverpool are no longer favourites to sign Teun Koopmeiners
, and it makes for interesting reading from a Liverpool perspective.
Indeed, according to this report, Liverpool were in pole position to sign Koopmeiners at one point this summer, but now it’s Juventus who are leading the race.
It’s said that Atalanta never received the offer they were expecting from Liverpool, and that has allowed Juventus to swoop in.
Koopmeiners is now apparently prioritising a move to Turin, and Liverpool appear to have missed out.
Koopmeiners is a big miss
Liverpool look to have missed out on the ‘’ midfielder, and it’s hard to not feel as though they’re making a serious mistake here.
Koopmeiners looks like an ideal signing for Liverpool. Not only does he play in a position that the Reds need to bolster, he knows Arne Slot very well from their time together at AZ Alkmaar, so he would be able to fit into the team easily.
Of course, Liverpool are likely to have contingency plans up their sleeves, especially with Michael Edwards back at the helm running the recruitment team.
However, from the outside looking in, this looks like a transfer that Liverpool could live to regret letting pass them by.
