Liverpool ace Thiago delivers one-word verdict on midfielder Wijnaldum
Liverpool thrashed Wolves 4-0 at Anfield with Dutch midfielder Gini Wijnaldum putting in a Man of the Match performance and earning praise from Thiago Alcantara.
The Reds won courtesy of a goal from Wijnaldum and further strikes from Mo Salah, Joel Matip and a Nelson Semedo own goal.
Jurgen Klopp’s team roared back after losing two points late on at Brighton last weekend with Wijnaldum’s performance really catching the eye.
The maestro has started 10 of Liverpool’s 11 games in the Premier League this season and is proving a big player.
After the game, he took to Instagram to offer his thoughts on 2000 fans being inside Anfield and also speak of his delight at scoring a goal.
He received a one-word appraisal from Thiago Alcantara who simply described him as ‘outstanding’ on the night.
Thiago has played just 134 minutes of football since making a £20 million move from Bayern Munich.
In his absence, it has led to Wijnaldum picking up the pace and highlighting his undoubted talent to Liverpool.
The Holland ace was tipped to sign for Barcelona during the summer with former head coach Ronald Koeman now in place at the Nou Camp.
It never transpired though and the La Liga club’s loss is very much Liverpool’s gain.
With his contract set to expire during next summer, Klopp needs to have a serious think about how he views the 30-year-old.
On current form, he is undroppable and offering him an extension looks like a no-brainer.
With Thiago out injured, there will be plenty of opportunities for Wijnaldum to continue impressing.
Liverpool have some quality young players coming through but right now it’s the Dutchman who is showing them the way.
