Liverpool 23-year-old would be under pressure if reported target joined – TBR View

🌱Despite the fact the duo have been injured for most of this season, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez would still be considered by most to be the first-choice centre-back partnership at Liverpool when available.

ꦉThe absence of Dutchman Van Dijk has understandably received all the headlines following a huge drop off from the Reds. However, English defender Gomez is someone who’s usually so important next to him.

ꦿGomez, 23, hasn’t played since November after he ruptured his patella tendon while training with the England national team.

ꦉHe’s a centre-half with raw pace, calmness on the ball, and aggressiveness in his defending.

ꦅWhen the ex-Charlton Athletic man is fit again, it would be no surprise to watch him re-establish himself back in Jurgen Klopp’s best XI, which is a place he’s been in the past couple of years at Anfield.

෴But that won’t be straightforward if Liverpool sign a reported target from a Premier League rival.

🃏, Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu is on a five-man centre-back shortlist that Liverpool have drawn up.

ꦑThe Turkey international has carved out a reputation for himself at the King Power Stadium as one of the division’s top centre-backs.

☂Aged 24, the ball-playing defender is someone that’s getting even better, and is almost Van Dijk-esque with all the qualities he possess.

♚He’s not the finished article yet, but he’s someone that would put intense pressure on Gomez if he ended up at Liverpool next season.

🦄Soyuncu seems destined to move to an elite club with his potential, albeit Leicester can’t be that far off shattering the top-six status.

🃏It would be really tough to split Soyuncu and Gomez in a direct comparison. Soyuncu is a beastly defender that is only getting better under Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester, while Gomez has proven on the elite stage he can perform.
