Linked with Tottenham and West Ham, Serhou Guirassy is goalless since September

It’s one year since Tottenham and West Ham were linked with striker Serhou Guirassy and their decision not to sign him is looking a good one.

claimed a two-way battle would emerge for the London rivals, with the player valued at £20 million.

West Ham, in particular, are going well this season, with Tottenham seeing their form drop off since the turn of the year.

The former Amiens striker was linked after scoring nine goals in Ligue 1 during the 2019/20 campaign.

His goalscoring record has hardly been prolific throughout his career and the reports were somewhat strange.

Both Tottenham and West Ham chose not to make concrete attempts to sign the 24-year-old in the summer, with Rennes pouncing.

The Ligue 1 rivals of Amiens chose to part with to land the uncompromising talisman, ending speculation of a Premier League switch.

His move to Rennes hasn’t gone according to plan though and both David Moyes and Jose Mourinho will be breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Guirassy has scored seven times this season but is without a goal in Ligue 1 since September.

He fired during a 3-0 win over Saint-Etienne but has gone firmly off the boil since that moment.

Tottenham added Carlos Vinicius to their attacking arsenal during the summer transfer window, with West Ham not choosing to strengthen in attack.

At 24, both clubs might have viewed Guirassy as one for the future but on the basis of this season, he’s no better than what either club has already.

At £20 million and probably a sizeable wage packet, there are better players out there who represent better value for money.

Tottenham and West Ham will have monitored Guirassy’s move to Rennes with intrigue.

On the basis of current form, neither club will be living to regret their decision not to sign the Frenchman.
