Linked with Tottenham and Arsenal in January, Jerome Boateng now reportedly set to leave

Jerome Boateng has been in and out of the Bayern Munich side this season with the experienced centre-back rivalling Javi Martinez and Niklas Sule for a place in the side but latest reports may have placed Tottenham and Arsenal on red alert.

Back in January, Spurs and Arsenal were linked 76-time Germany international Boateng. Indeed, that Arsenal wanted to sign the former Manchester City star, Tottenham and Juventus were keen.

have now reported that Bayern Munich are willing to offload three first-team stars in the summer window. Boateng, 31, is one of those as well as Spanish defender Martinez and midfielder Corentin Tolisso.

Both north London clubs need central defenders. Mikel Arteta’s side are expected to take the plunge into the market this summer for a centre-back, with Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz and Sokratis all struggling.

Pablo Mari is yet to prove his worth, while Dayot Upamecano could cost an enormous £70million. Meanwhile, Jan Vertonghen is expected to leave Tottenham in the summer, with the Belgian’s contract expected to expire in the summer.

Surely, then, Tottenham and Arsenal will be placed on red alert in response to the latest reports that state Bayern will offload Boateng. A World Cup and Champions League winner, Boateng boasts enormous experience.

More than 300 appearances for Bayern and more than 500 at senior level for club and country, the ex-Hertha Berlin star would be an excellent signing for either Arsenal or Tottenham should they consider a move for him.

Yes, the odd error has creeped into his game but in January that Bayern only want £12.8m for his signature. Surely, then, Tottenham and Arsenal have got to take advantage of the latest reports and consider a move for Boateng.
