Likelihood of five recently-linked players moving to Rangers, including German ace

Rangers have closed the gap somewhat on Old Firm rivals Celtic this season, finishing second in the Scottish Premiership under Steven Gerrard. But another summer overhaul is likely.

A number of first-team stars could leave, with Steven Davis, Ryan Kent, Joe Worrall and Lassana Coulibaly only on loan. Here are five recently-linked players rated out of 10 on the likelihood to move to Ibrox this summer.

Lewis Holtby – Hamburger SV

A somewhat bizarre link, former Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham midfielder Holtby cropped up as a potential target for Rangers –  The 28-year-old is out of contract this summer.

Rangers do have connections with Hamburg after defender David Bates moved to the German side last summer. But it just does not seem likely for the German footballer to move to Ibrox.

Daniel Bachmann – Watford

On loan at Kilmarnock, the Austrian goalkeeper has impressed for Steve Clarke’s side this season. The 24-year-old has played 24 times for Killie this season, conceding only 20 goals and keeping 12 clean sheets.

that his agent has spoken to Rangers over a potential move. The Gers have Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham, but the latter could leave. A move that is more likely, but Killie are first choice.

TBR Rating: 5/10.

Ryan Kent – Liverpool

Kent has been sensational for Rangers this season. He earned the young player of the season award, but his loan is coming to an end. The 22-year-old has scored six goals and created nine more.

But The Sun on Sunday (April 14) claimed on page 61 that Gerrard may travel to Anfield to convince Liverpool to sell for cheaper.

John Souttar – Hearts

Souttar is an excellent centre-back and has shown as much for Hearts this season. In his 30 appearances, Hearts have won 19 times. But in the 15 games he missed due to a hip injury, they won only six.

the 22-year-old Scotland international is valued at just £1million. With Worrall and Gareth McAuley set to leave, a centre-back is required. Souttar is perfect.

TBR Rating: 8/10.

Greg Stewart – Birmingham City

Stewart has become a household name in Scottish football this season, after an excellent loan spell with Kilmarnock before joining Aberdeen in January. His blues contract expires this summer.

that Rangers are “closing in” on a pre-contract agreement for the 29-year-old. On a free, Stewart could be a top signing.
