‘Liar’, ‘Burned your bridges’ – These Liverpool fans react to Raheem Sterling’s comments

Former Liverpool attacker Raheem Sterling has revealed how he felt about the Reds winning the Champions League last season. Sterling said, “I was really happy for them, happy for some of the players I know to lift the Champions League”, as quoted by the .

Whilst the Merseyside outfit may have won Europe’s elite club competition, they were pipped to the Premier League title by Sterling’s current club, Manchester City. Sterling played a key role in City’s success. He contributed 17 goals and 12 assists over the course of the league campaign. City also won the FA Cup and League Cup.

Sterling left Anfield in 2015, as a 20-year-old, in . This switch made him the most expensive English player ever.  However, his departure caused a breakdown in his relationship with Liverpool fans. As reported by the , plenty of the Anfield faithful felt that Sterling left the club simply to chase a bigger salary elsewhere.

The 24-year-old is still often booed upon his returns to Anfield as a Manchester City player. It is unlikely that supporters of the Merseyside club will ever take the 51-cap England international back into their hearts.

Following Sterling’s comments on their Champions League triumph, plenty of Liverpool fans took to Twitter to respond.
