Liam Kelly free to leave Feyenoord, should Leeds bring him back to England?
Liam Kelly made the surprise switch to Dutch side Feyenoord Reading in the summer after his contract with the Royals expired – but it iꦓs claimed that the Irish midfielder will already be allowed to leave, and Leeds should consider a move.
that Kelly is now allowed to leave the club in the next window, with the 24-year-old surplus to💞 requirements at Feyenoord. He was signed by the Dutch club after Jaap Stam swapped Reading for Feyenoord.
The Europa League side, though, struggled under Stꦿam and it saw the Eredivisie side bring in Dick Advocaat as manager. Since the experienced boss t﷽ook to the Feyenoord dugout, Kelly has failed to play for the Dutch giants.
Indeed, Kelly has only managed two appearances at all – one in the Eredivisไie. Of Feyenoord’s 17 league games, he has appeared as an unused substitute 12 times – and now he is free to leave the club next month, and Leeds should take a look.
With Adam Forshaw, Jamie Shackleton and Tyler Roberts currently sidelined, Leeds are looking light in the middle of the park. Even with all of those players fit, the Whitܫes lack cover for Kalvin Phillips 𓄧– who sits at the base of the Leeds midfield.
Kelly, meanwhile, can play in both central midfielder and at the base, in betw♈een the defence and midfield. Forshaw can do the job, but he is far less experienced than Kelly is in that role – who also provides cover in the normal central midfield role.
What Kelly can add to Leeds is an impressive array of passing but also the ability shoot from long range, as well as creating the odd goal too. Phillips h🥃as scored just one goal in the position he plays, in just under 18 months of doing so.
But Kelly seven times in 82 Championship appearances for Reading, as well as creating nine more goals. He could give Leeds that added extra goal threat from deep in midfield, as well as providing🔯 cover.
With the Ireland under-😼21 interꦇnational free to leave, Leeds should seriously consider the Feyenoord outcast.
