Liam Delap shares what ‘everyone’ at Chelsea was saying to him before his £30m move to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have announced the signing of Liam Delap in a £30million deal from Ipswich Town.

TBR Football confirmed late last month that Delap had decided on a move to Chelsea ahead of fellow suitors Manchester United and Everton.

Now, Chelsea have formally announced the arrival of Delap, who joins the Blues after an impressive season with now-relegated Ipswich.

The Chelsea media team also shared Delap’s first interview with the club, in which he spoke about what he hopes to achieve at Stamford Bridge.

Liam Delap says he heard everyone at Chelsea say they want to get back to the very top

Liam Delap told the Chelsea that he’s fully aware of the club’s stature, having grown up watching the Blues enjoy a golden era.

He then said everyone at the club made it clear they were eager to get back to the very top of football.

“Growing up watching this club, I understand the stature of it and how incredible it has been over the years,” said Delap.

“I wanted to come here to win trophies. When I spoke to the club, everyone wanted to get back to the very top, and they have the quality and the players to do that.

“The hunger and desire to keep adding trophies, to take the club back to where it belongs, that is the main objective.”

What Enzo Maresca has already said about Liam Delap

Delap joins Chelsea following a season in which he was head and shoulders above most of his peers at Ipswich.

Despite the Tractor Boys’ struggles, Delap scored 12 goals and he showed he has what it takes to thrive in the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca previously said Delap is a “real” No. 9 just like Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

“In terms of numbers, he’s doing fantastic,” the Chelsea boss said back in April.

“I think he’s scored 12 goals already. It’s not just in terms of his numbers. The way he plays and fights and is always ‘there’.”

Maresca further added: “To compare Liam with Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, it’s a bit early.

“But in terms of style, he’s that kind of player. They are all real nines.”
