Liam Cooper shares trait Kalvin Phillips shares with ‘best players in the world’
Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has been discussing the aspect of Kalvin Phillips’ game that the midfielder shares with some of the ‘best in the world’.
In Leeds United’s new year Championship wobble one of the defining moments was Kalvin Phillips’ needless sending off against QPR. It saw the vital midfielder miss three crucial games and Leeds desperately missed him.
, the Leeds captain admitted he was fuming with Phillips immediately following the incident. However, he also pointed out that he would not take that aspect out of Phillips’ game.
“I couldn’t look at him when he got sent off!
“But I think, even if we were 1-0 up, Kalvin would still make that tackle. If you take that part out of his game you take out a lot of him. He plays on the edge sometimes, and that’s like some of the best players in the world. It can be a very good attribute to have.”
There is no doubt that Phillips does play on the edge. However, over the past two seasons, he has certainly managed to keep that edge cleaner than when he first came into the Leeds first-team picture.

It is part of the Leeds midfield star’s game to put in crunching tackles and impose himself on a game physically.
But against QPR, frustration got the better of him and it almost ended up costing Leeds big time.
But after returning from suspension Phillips has been in some of the best form of his Leeds career and was helping the Whites in their promotion push before the season was postponed.
Leeds fans will not want him to lose that edge when the football does get back underway.
